Examples of Area of a Trapezium
Area of a Trapezium
A trapezium whose parallel sides are of length a units and b units and the perpendicular distance between them is h units has an area of A square units given by the formula:
A = 1/2 (a + b) * h
Example:
Find the area of a trapezium whose parallel sides are 10 cm and 8 cm where the perpendicular distance between the sides is 4 cm.
A = 1/2 (a + b) * h
A = 1/2 (10 + 8) * 4
A = 1/2 * 18 * 4 = 36
So, the area of this trapezium is 36 cm^2
