Examples of Expanding parentheses

Expanding parentheses

Post by

Expanding parentheses or brackets means remove it. Whatever is inside the ( ) needs to be treated as a "package". When you multiply, you have to multiply by everything inside the "package":

a (b + c) = ab + ac

Examples of expanding parentheses:

3 (x + 6) = 3x + 3*6 = 3x + 18

-3 (a - 5) = -3a + -3*-5 = -3a + 15

2x (x - a) = 2x*x + 2x*-a = 2x^2 - 2ax

a (2 - b + c) = 2a + a*-b + ac = 2a - ab + ac
